DO YOUR INVESTMENTS HAVE AN IMPACT?
Your investments do have an impact.
ON YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
The large 128 units we purchased in Tallahassee was owned by seventeen investors who were seeking an appropriate return for the risk they were taking with their investments.
Each of us valued a safe investment. We did not go into it with the intent of losing our hard-earned dollars. We planned from day one to also receive an appropriate return on that investment, more than we could if it was deposited in the bank. Actually a good bit more.
To be honest, all of us were in it for ourselves. We were employing our dollars to make more dollars that would put food on the table and pay our bills and grow our net worth. No question about this.
Our investments have a huge impact on us and our families.
If we lose money, we lose personally. If we increase our money, we gain something for ourselves.
ON OTHER PEOPLE
Our recent complex in Tallahassee had a positive impact on the families that work in that community. We chose a complex that would primarily serve people in the everyday workforce.
Our residents worked in construction, in stores and restaurants, in hospitals, and schools. Some were older and were unable to work. A few were supported by Section 8. Some were single-parent families with school-age children.
We sought to provide affordable housing – clean, safe, a nice place with fair rents.
We were in this for the impact it would have on other people, particularly on the working people in Tallahassee, those who needed a place to stay and raise their families.
Like the statement on the coffee mug above, we want to do good.
ON BOTH
We chose to do both, to serve other people while at the same time serving ourselves, if that makes sense.
It is nice to be able to do both.
For almost four years, we served hundreds of Tallahassee’s workforce families, people who were doing the everyday jobs that a city needs. For the life of our investments, we were able to receive the advantages of owning a multifamily complex that ultimately produced not only the return of our initial capital investment but also a good return on that investment.
This is a classic win-win formula. We served and were served with this investment.
Both Mike and I are trying to embody that command of the Bible that says to love our neighbor as we are loving ourselves, both, at the same time.
